Editing HoC #12

This is going to be the opposite of fun. Mostly, what I wrote during NaNoWriMo has been good, solid material and in the quantities I need. This ep, however, was two scenes shorter than what I needed and sort of drifted all over the place. I didn’t know what I was trying to accomplish in the whole of the episode. And until I know that, it’s impossible to edit individual scenes: how can I decide what needs changing when I can’t find my target?

At this point, I’ve done some paper edits and worked out how and where the added two scenes will fit in. I know what I’m trying to say with the story at this point. This is good, but there’s a long way to go. To that end, I’m recording the rest of the Olympic coverage tonight so I can shuffle off to work on this. I’ve got to get rid of the television one of these days. Just, well, not before the Olympics end.

About Joyce

Joyce Sully lives in Southern California. She graduated from UC Irvine. She likes to knit and cook and play video games. But mostly she writes. Joyce writes short stories and novels, songs and poems, scripts and instructions to feed the cat if she stays out late. She has been spotted as far afield as Seattle, but travel makes her nervous. She believes in magic and dragons and ghosts, but is not convinced her next-door neighbors are real.
